Joanne Leong is an Associate in the Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice of Cavenagh Law LLP.
Joanne has experience in a broad range of commercial cross-border and domestic litigation and international arbitration, and also in managing and advising on investigations and regulatory matters. She is dual-qualified in New York and Singapore.
Before joining the firm, Joanne was an Assistant Registrar in the Supreme Court of Singapore and a District Judge in the State Courts of Singapore. Prior to that, Joanne served as a Justices' Law Clerk in the Supreme Court of Singapore, and as a State Counsel / Deputy Public Prosecutor in the Attorney-General's Chambers, where she handled a range of criminal disputes.
She graduated from the London School of Economics with First Class Honours and obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Harvard Law School.
- Acting for a Swiss bank and trust company in a US$500 million dispute with ultra-high net worth individuals involving a breach of fiduciary duty, breach of trust and vicarious liability.
- Acting for a wind farm owner against a major wind turbine manufacturer and operator in disputes relating to an offshore wind farm in Taiwan. Singapore law, English law and SIAC rules apply to the dispute.
- Acting for a joint venture between two major global petrochemical corporations in an ad-hoc arbitration involving a US$1 billion construction contract.
- Advised and assisted a multinational software company on contractual, sanctions and regulatory matters.
- Adjudicating multi-party claims in the Singapore courts, including those related to commercial and construction contracts, complex torts, intellectual property and admiralty matters*
- Managing court litigation ancillary to international arbitration in the Singapore General Division of the High Court, Court of Appeal and Singapore International Commercial Court*
- Conducting and adjudicating criminal litigation and sentencing in respect of a wide range of criminal and regulatory offences, with experience in various offences including under the Securities and Futures Act, Corruption, Drug Trafficking and Other Serious Crimes (Confiscation of Benefits) Act, Prevention of Corruption Act, Workplace Safety and Health Act and the Penal Code*
