A bright start to a brilliant career

The Clifford Chance Asia Training Programme is a unique 26 month programme delivered in collaboration with our formal law alliance partner, Clifford Chance. Designed to develop the next generation of Singapore lawyers through a structured and internationally focused training experience, the Training Programme comprises two distinct stages.

The Training Programme begins with a Practice Training Contract at Cavenagh Law. During this stage, you will complete the statutorily required practice training period under the Legal Profession (Admission) Rules 2024, placing you on the pathway to admission as a Singapore lawyer, while gaining practical experience across a broad range of matters before progressing to the Trainee Associate Programme.

As a practice trainee with Cavenagh Law, you will be a valued team member from day one. You will be close to the action, with an active role in client relationships and business development early on. You will enjoy the challenge of working on a wide variety of local and international matters, often collaborating with colleagues from one of Clifford Chance's international offices.

Over the course of the 26‑month Training Programme, you will undertake seat rotations through different Global Product Groups. In addition, one of your seats will be an international secondment to one of Clifford Chance’s international offices, providing you with real insight into how cross-border collaboration contributes to our success and how other jurisdictions operate.

From the moment you start, you will receive strong support from the HR team, partners and supervisors, many of whom have been through the process themselves. We recognise that high-quality training and supervision are key to helping you get the most from your training experience.

Upon successful completion of the Training Programme, participants will have the opportunity to be considered for associate positions with Clifford Chance or Cavenagh Law LLP.

Practice training contract benefits

Practice Trainee Salary: S$115,000 p.a.
Financial assistance during Part B studies
Reimbursement of Part B fees

Structure of our 26-month training programme

Stage 1: Practice training contract with Cavenagh Law

At Cavenagh Law, we have designed the structure of our practice training contract to give you the widest range of experience within our business in line with the training requirements in the Legal Profession Act and the Legal Profession (Admission) Rules 2024.

Under the supervision of the partners of Cavenagh Law, you will be given training assignments and supervised training on high profile matters and learn from market leaders. You will take real responsibility on matters in a refreshing and stimulating environment, where your unique talents will have the space to shine, develop and make a real impact.

With the support of the Clifford Chance Academy, our practice trainees undertake a bespoke induction programme combining practical learning, insight and skills to ensure that you start life as a practice trainee with the all the tools and techniques for you to succeed in your role.

Stage 2: World class training and development

Following admission in Singapore, and as a qualified lawyer, the next stage of the training programme consists of up to two seat placements with Clifford Chance in one of its Global Product Groups. There is an opportunity (travel restrictions permitting) to undertake one of your seat rotations at one of Clifford Chance's international offices.

Throughout the Trainee Associate Programme, you will be closely supported, both informally and through formal mentoring and training, with advice and guidance from the graduate team and a supervisor in each seat. The Clifford Chance Academy, a pioneering resource which develops innovative learning tools, will also provide you with support throughout the post-qualification training programme.
